In 1904 a man named George Edwin Taylor made history
becoming the first black presidential candidate in United States history. Even
though he lost the election he made a name for his self, and encouraged other
black presidents to run. We even had our first black president Brock Obama who
was also ridiculed like George Taylor, who came from a troubled back ground and
had to overcome certain obstacles that many people wouldn’t be able to overcome,
they would give up because they feel like the world is against them and would
want people to feel sorry for them. George Edwin Taylor was born August 4,1857, in little rock Arkansas to a single mother named Amanda Hines.
Shortly after him and his mother moved to lacrosse she
passed away and he was orphaned and went into the 1900s version of foster care,
he bounced around then managed to live with a farmer until he was 20 named Nathan smith who insisted George had a
good education . In my opinion I feel
like George stuck some luck with the farmer because he encouraged him to get an
education, Taylor was a very troubled child and got into quite a bit of trouble
as a child, so for the farmer to insist he has a good education is part of the
reason he became the man he was .Nathan smith ended up sending George to way
land university but Nathan couldn’t help George anymore it was all up to him to
get where he needed to be where he became the leader in the Wisconsin union
labor party . George Edwin Taylor is sometimes forgotten in the
discussion for black politicians but he was a pioneer for them, he ran for
president as the candidate of the national Negro liberty party.. George Edwin Taylor is sometimes forgotten in the
discussion for black politicians but he was a pioneer for them, he ran for
president as the candidate of the national Negro liberty party. George edwin taylor started off rough but he got his life together and became a pioneer for lots of black politicians we see and have seen over the years
